U.S. military justifies its presence in Haiti

The U.S. military will remain engaged in Haiti "as it will be useful, today assured the press Colonel Gregory Kane, director of command operations in Haiti, saying that" the military element "could take" between 45 and 50 days.

"We will be in Haiti as it will be useful. The military operation, under the experience will probably be 45 to 50 days," he assured the Colonel Kane at a news conference.

"It is a political decision to be taken by the U.S. government," he added.
The United States has deployed some 20,000 troops on land and sea to participate in humanitarian aid after the earthquake of January 12 which claimed over 200,000 lives.
