U.S. detainees in Haiti

A group of a dozen American nationals, detained in Port-au-Prince after having tried, apparently without authorization, to take thirty children out of Haiti were not "helping the children," stated today 'hui their manager, Laura Silsby, she also owned.

"We have come only to help children. We had good intentions," she told the police where the group of Americans had been held since Saturday.

"We wanted to help those who lost relatives during the earthquake or were abandoned," she added.

She could not give more details on the procedure that awaited them and they should be presented to a judge Monday.

These American citizens are detained for "alleged violation of Haitian laws on immigration, after being intercepted by a policeman suspiciously near the border with the Dominican Republic while transporting 33 children from 2 months to 12 or 14 years a bus.
